It seems like every blog engine has one — a cal­en­dar wid­get in the side bar. But, does any­one (per­haps other than the blog author) ever use it?

I’m in the process of set­ting up Fuse­blog 2 on my new host­ing account, and I’m actu­ally gonna use some of the stan­dard “bloggy” fea­tures that I’ve shied away from until now. But, I don’t think I’ve ever used a cal­en­dar nav wid­get on a blog, and I just don’t think it’s a use­ful thing. I could use that space for some­thing else!

So, what do you think? Please leave a com­ment! I’d also love any other feed­back on blog lay­out — do you actu­ally read “now read­ing” and “now lis­ten­ing to” side­bars? Blogrolls? Should com­ments be on the main page? Do you fol­low “next post” and “pre­vi­ous post” links, or do you come in from the rss feed?
