Hello to WordPress

I’ve been talking about it for ages, and now I’ve finally gone and done it - moved this blog to WordPress, that is.

I’m now running on a HostingFuse.com account, which is insanely good value and has both CF and PHP enabled. I was able to import all my posts from my old RSS feed, although I wasn’t able to automate the comments. I copied a few across manually and if I get bored I may convert some of the more interesting discussions… but that’s not a high priority. With a bit of CF trickery I think I’ve preserved all the permalinks.

Now, I’ll pre-empt the inevitable questions: why did I choose WordPress over a CF-based blogging engine? Essentially, I’m running a few WordPress blogs and a few WordPress-driven web sites and I can’t rave about it highly enough: it leaves other blogging solutions for dead. My two highest-priority features are covered - standards-compliant, semantic code that makes skinning easy, and permalinks that are both search-engine-friendly and human-being-friendly. It has a kick-arse admin interface, about a billion plugins already available, and a great extensibility layer on the off-chance you want something that hasn’t already been done. I just don’t think any of the CF blogging solutions can compete, and I’ve tried out a few.
