OneNote Rediscovered

204689_2186

I installed the Microsoft OneNote beta on my TabletPC when it was first released, months and months ago, and absolutely hated the pen input. It lasted about two days before getting uninstalled.

We got some licences in the office the other day, so on a whim I installed it on my desktop PC, and it’s bloody amazing. All the post-it notes have disappeared from my desk. All the folders and random pieces of paper, gone. I have folders for all the general areas I work on — one for projects, one for SEO, one for internal projects — and tabs for each different client or site within each. And it’s all nicely laid out so I can see it in one glance. The program stays open all day. I’m all digital now, baby!

I’m a little surprised it doesn’t support embedding or linking of Office documents, but it is a version 1.0 so I’m sure that will improve later. The one feature it doesn’t have that I wish it did was a way of inserting the current date and time when I make a note. It datestamps the whole page, but I don’t want to start a whole new page every time I want to scribble something down. I might make Dave code me some kind of Windows utility to solve that problem, mu ha ha (evil laugh).
